ABOUT THIS WINE
Mirco Mariotti's Smarazen is a sparkling white wine, a Pét-Nat, from the Bosco Eliceo sub-region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Its unique identity is shaped by its proximity to the Adriatic Sea, with vineyards situated very close to the coast and even below sea level, on sandy soils. The wine is made from a blend of Trebbiano and Malvasia di Candia grapes, often from vines that are over 100 years old and are non-grafted. The name 'Smarazen' is inspired by an Italian card game, reflecting the producer's approachable winemaking style. Mirco Mariotti, a former biologist, inherited the winery and focuses on natural winemaking practices.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Mirco Mariotti Smarazen is produced using the Ancestral Method (Pétillant Naturel). Following a primary fermentation in tanks with native yeasts, the wine is aged in cement tanks for approximately 60 days. It then undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle, initiated by the addition of grape must from the same harvest. The wine is bottled without any clarification or filtration. It is aged in the bottle for 4-5 months before being released. Low sulfur additions are a characteristic of the winemaking process.
