ABOUT THIS WINE
Quinta da Aveleda, a historic estate managed by the Guedes family since 1870, is a cornerstone of Portuguese winemaking in the Vinho Verde region. The Solos de Granito bottling is part of an educational series highlighting the profound impact of soil geology on the Alvarinho grape. While granite makes up ninety percent of the region's soils, this wine specifically showcases vines grown in these ancient, highly draining, nutrient-poor granitic terrains. These soils force the vine roots deep into the earth, resulting in a wine of remarkable structural focus and geological expression that represents the classic, site-specific potential of northern Portugal.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process is designed to preserve the pure, mineral-driven character of the Alvarinho grape. Grapes are hand-harvested at night to maintain freshness and prevent oxidation, followed by strict cluster selection. Upon arrival at the gravity-fed winery, the grapes are cooled and undergo a short pre-fermentative cold skin-contact maceration. After a gentle, low-pressure pneumatic pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged on its fine lees with periodic stirring (bâtonnage) for nine months, followed by an additional nine months of bottle aging before release.
