ABOUT THIS WINE
Weingut Diefenhardt, located in the Martinsthal region of the Rheingau, Germany, is steeped in centuries of winemaking tradition, with historical vaulted cellars dating back to the 17th century. Acquired by Jacob Diefenhardt in 1917, the estate is currently managed by the fourth and fifth generations, Peter Seyffardt and his daughter Julia. Julia, a Geisenheim University oenology graduate, brings a Francophile sensibility to the estate after training in Stellenbosch and Burgundy. This influence is reflected in their focus on structure, elegance, and restraint. The estate's vineyards are characterized by steep slopes with mineral-rich soils of stony loam, phyllite, and quartzite, which impart a distinct mineral character to their wines.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process at Weingut Diefenhardt emphasizes environmentally conscious, close-to-nature viticulture. This includes organic fertilization, careful canopy management to optimize the leaf-to-fruit ratio, severe yield reduction, and meticulous selective hand-harvesting. For their red wines, traditional fermentation is employed, followed by aging in oak barrels (barriques) to integrate structure and complexity without overpowering the delicate fruit. The wine is bottled under a screw cap closure to preserve its freshness and precision.
