ABOUT THIS WINE
The Gaja Sperss Barolo is a 100% Nebbiolo wine from the Barolo DOCG in Piedmont, Italy. It originates from the Sperss vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, a site characterized by compact clayey-calcareous marls and a south-southwest exposure. The wine's name, 'Sperss,' is a Piedmontese dialect term for nostalgia, reflecting a significant moment for the Gaja family as it marked their first venture into producing Barolo from their own land, a notable expansion beyond their traditional Barbaresco roots. The Gaja winery, established in 1859, is a historic estate known for its fourth-generation winemaking leadership, which has embraced both tradition and innovation.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Gaja Sperss Barolo is produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. Fermentation occurs in steel tanks, a process that allows for precise temperature control. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 30 months in a combination of small and large oak barrels (botti). This aging regimen is designed to impart structure and complexity, preparing the wine for its significant aging potential.
