ABOUT THIS WINE
The Spourtiko 2020 is a white wine from Cyprus, produced by K & E Makarouna Ltd (Makarounas Winery). It is made from the indigenous Spourtiko grape variety, named for its thin, easily burst skin. Makarounas Winery is a family-run estate with a four-generation history, founded in 2016. Their winemaking philosophy centers on the belief that quality originates in the vineyard, and they exclusively utilize grapes from their own privately-owned vineyards. The winery is located in Letymbou village, Pafos district, a region with a long tradition of vine cultivation. Their vineyards are situated at altitudes of 400-600 meters, with soils composed of crystal gypsum, limestone, and quartz. The winery is committed to organic viticulture and uses ungrafted vines.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Spourtiko 2020 is produced using spontaneous fermentation, allowing indigenous yeasts to drive the process. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes seven months of aging on its lees, a technique that can contribute to texture and complexity. The grapes are sourced exclusively from Makarounas Winery's privately-owned vineyards, which are managed using organic viticulture practices. The winery also utilizes ungrafted vines. This approach reflects a commitment to expressing the unique characteristics of the Spourtiko grape and its terroir.
