ABOUT THIS WINE
The Stellenbosch Reserve Vanderstel 2022 is a red wine blend from the Stellenbosch region of South Africa, named in honor of Simon van der Stel, the founder of Stellenbosch. The wine is a Bordeaux-style blend, crafted by The Stellenbosch Reserve, a project associated with Jean Engelbrecht. It draws grapes from various sites across Stellenbosch, including Simonsberg, Devon Valley, and Heldeberg, aiming to capture the essence of the region. The 2022 vintage was characterized by favorable winter rainfall followed by a warm, dry summer, which contributed to full phenolic ripeness and extended hang-time for the grapes.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Stellenbosch Reserve Vanderstel 2022 is produced using a meticulous winemaking process. Each grape variety and parcel is vinified separately. Fermentation occurs in open-top stainless-steel fermenters, with a 7-day primary fermentation period involving four daily punch-downs or pump-overs. Maceration on skins lasts for 14 days to achieve balanced phenolic extraction. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels. The wine is then aged in 300-liter French oak barrels for 12 months, with some indications of 18 months of aging with 40% new barrels.
