ABOUT THIS WINE
The Sul Vulcano Etna Bianco DOC is a white wine from the Etna appellation in Sicily, produced by Donnafugata. It is primarily crafted from the indigenous Carricante grape, with Catarratto often used as a blending partner, adhering to DOC regulations requiring a minimum of 60% Carricante. The vineyards are situated on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, at elevations ranging from 600 to 800 meters, characterized by volcanic soils and traditional terraced structures. The wine's identity is deeply tied to this unique volcanic landscape, with its distinctive minerality being a direct result of the terroir. The 'Sul Vulcano' label itself is a tribute to Mount Etna, featuring a volcano goddess that represents the region's vibrant energy and colors. Donnafugata, the producer, is a renowned Sicilian winery with a long family history in winemaking, dedicated to showcasing the essence of the island through its wines.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Sul Vulcano Etna Bianco DOC is produced using grapes from the Etna region of Sicily. Following harvest, the grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 14-16°C. The wine is then aged for 10 months, with a portion maturing in French oak barriques (second and third passage) and the remainder in tanks. A minimum of 12 months of bottle aging precedes the wine's release. The 2021 vintage harvest for Carricante began on September 22nd due to high summer temperatures.
