ABOUT THIS WINE
Tignanello is an iconic milestone in Italian viticultural history, produced at the Tenuta Tignanello estate in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Originally released in the 1970s, it was a revolutionary wine that challenged traditional Italian wine laws. It was the first Sangiovese-based wine to be aged in small French oak barriques, the first modern red wine blended with non-traditional international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and one of the very first single-vineyard red wines in Chianti. The famous label, designed by Silvio Coppola in 1974, features a stylized sun and the Antinori family crest, symbolizing a bold leap of faith that paved the way for the Super Tuscan movement. Today, it remains a benchmark of elegance, complexity, and Tuscan identity.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2019 vintage of Tignanello was crafted from hand-harvested grapes, meticulously sorted twice to ensure only the finest fruit was used. Fermentation took place in truncated conical tanks with gentle extraction techniques, including pump-overs and delestage, to preserve the vibrant fruit character and extract silky, structured tannins. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurred in small oak barrels immediately after racking. The wine was aged for 14 to 16 months in a combination of French and Hungarian oak barrels, partially new and partially second-use. Notably, the 2019 vintage introduced larger 500-liter barrels alongside traditional 225-liter barriques to better preserve the bright, un-oaked purity of the Sangiovese. After blending, the wine was aged for an additional 12 months in the bottle before release.
