ABOUT THIS WINE
Vega Sicilia Unico is a flagship red wine from the Ribera del Duero region of Spain, produced by Bodegas Vega Sicilia. The winery, founded in 1864, is renowned for its dedication to producing wines of exceptional quality and longevity. The Álvarez family, owners since 1982, uphold a philosophy of patience and tradition. Unico is crafted primarily from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grapes, with a component of Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on the estate's diverse soils. The 2006 vintage benefited from a warm growing season followed by rain, leading to well-balanced grapes. Unico is characterized by its extensive aging process, often spanning a decade before release, and its capacity to age for many decades.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Vega Sicilia Unico involves a meticulous, time-honored approach. Grapes are harvested manually into small cases. Fermentation occurs in wooden tanks and oak vats, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The wine then undergoes an extensive aging period, typically around ten years, which includes time in large oak vats (20,000-liter tanks) and American oak barrels, followed by significant bottle aging before release. The 2006 vintage was bottled in June 2012, indicating its extended maturation timeline.
