ABOUT THIS WINE
Unico by Bodegas Vega Sicilia, S.A. is a distinguished red wine from the Ribera del Duero DO in Spain's Castilla y León region. Produced from 96% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is a testament to the estate's philosophy of patience and extended aging, with the 2015 vintage being the first overseen by winemaker Gonzalo Iturriaga. The vineyards are located at high altitudes, contributing to the wine's structure and aging potential. Bodegas Vega Sicilia, founded in 1864, is renowned as Spain's most prestigious wine estate, often compared to Bordeaux's First Growths, with a deep commitment to releasing wines only when they reach their optimal drinking point.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Unico is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a profound respect for tradition, combined with a philosophy of extreme patience. Grapes are hand-harvested in small boxes to maintain quality. Fermentation takes place in wooden tanks using native yeasts, followed by an exceptionally long aging period. The 2015 vintage, for example, spent five years in various oak vessels before being bottled in May 2021, and then continues its maturation in bottle for years before release. This extended maturation is fundamental to Unico's identity.
