ABOUT THIS WINE
The Viejos Viñedos en Pie Franco Malbec hails from Mendoza, Argentina, specifically the Luján de Cuyo region. It is crafted from 100% Malbec grapes grown on ungrafted vines that are over 100 years old. These ancient vines are cultivated in two notable vineyards, Las Compuertas and Vistalba, situated at elevations between 1000 and 1700 meters. Matías Riccitelli, the producer, established his boutique winery with a focus on exploring unique terroirs and preserving the singular character of the fruit. The wine's name, 'Viejos Viñedos en Pie Franco,' directly translates to 'Old Vines on Free Rootstock,' emphasizing its heritage and the rarity of ungrafted vines in contemporary winemaking.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for this Malbec begins with hand-harvested grapes from old, ungrafted vines. Fermentation takes place in small concrete vats and concrete eggs, utilizing indigenous yeasts and employing gentle punchdowns for slow extraction. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes aging for approximately 16 months in 500-liter French oak barrels. Sustainable farming practices are employed in the vineyards, with an emphasis on avoiding herbicides and systemic treatments.
