ABOUT THIS WINE
Elisa Freire Lobo's family has farmed the granite foothills of the Serra da Estrela in Portugal's Dão region for generations. After earning her oenology degree in 1999, Elisa initially sold her grapes to local cooperatives. In 2010, she took full control of the family estate, transitioning to organic practices inspired by the natural health of the estate's sheep-grazed olive groves. Following devastating regional wildfires in 2017, she introduced beehives to restore the local biodiversity. Today, Elisa stands as the first female estate winemaker to establish her own independent winery in the Dão, crafting highly respected, terroir-driven wines that reflect the high-altitude granite soils of her homeland.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Vigno Tinto is crafted using low-intervention, traditional methods. Grapes are hand-harvested from high-altitude vineyards situated between 560 and 600 meters above sea level. In the cellar, the fruit undergoes spontaneous fermentation with 100% wild, native yeasts. The grapes are co-fermented and foot-trodden (pisada a pé) in open-top stainless steel lagares to ensure gentle tannin extraction. To preserve the vibrant, primary red fruit characteristics and the pure mineral expression of the granitic soils, the wine is aged entirely in stainless steel tanks and bottle, completely avoiding any oak contact.
