ABOUT THIS WINE
Lothian of Elgin is a family-owned estate in South Africa's cool-climate Elgin Valley, founded by the Wilson family who trace their winemaking roots back three generations. Attracted by the region's resemblance to their ancestral Scotland, with its rolling green hills, heavy mists, and water systems, they transformed a former protea farm into a world-class vineyard. Partnering with Master of Wine Richard Kershaw, the estate focuses on producing elegant, Burgundian-style wines that showcase the unique, cool-climate terroir of Elgin.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Pinot Noir grapes are hand-harvested from selected east- and north-facing blocks. The fruit is destemmed and naturally fermented in open fermenters for ten days using ambient yeasts. Gentle extraction is achieved through délestage (rack-and-return). Following a light pressing, the wine is racked into French oak barriques (228L) where spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs. The wine is matured for 11 months in French oak (25% new, 75% older fill) and undergoes two years of bottle aging before release.
