ABOUT THIS WINE
Vinupetra – Etna Rosso DOC is a still red wine from the Etna region of Sicily, Italy, produced by I Vigneri di Salvo Foti & Figli. The wine is a blend primarily of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, with smaller amounts of Grenache and Francisi. It originates from vineyards located on the northern slope of Mount Etna, specifically in Contrada Porcaria, at an elevation of approximately 580 meters. The vineyards are characterized by ancient vines, some over 100 years old, planted in volcanic soils rich in stones. The winemaking philosophy of Salvo Foti emphasizes traditional, non-interventionist methods, aiming to create 'Human Wines' that respect the environment and the land's history. The name 'Vinupetra' itself signifies 'wine produced in a land full of stones,' highlighting the wine's deep connection to its unique terroir.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Vinupetra is guided by Salvo Foti's philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for tradition. Grapes are hand-harvested in late October. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts in 2,500-liter wooden casks, with approximately 30% of the grape stalks retained for at least 15 days of skin maceration. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in a mix of 225-liter and 500-liter oak casks and barrels. It then undergoes at least one year of bottle aging before release. The vineyard management employs the traditional 'Alberello Etneo' bush system, and viticulture follows uncertified organic and biodynamic principles.
