ABOUT THIS WINE
The 2020 Wending South is a distinctive red blend from Wending Home Estate Vineyards & Winery, produced in the Creek Shores VQA of Ontario, Canada. This wine is a unique composition, featuring 52% Dornfelder, 25% Cabernet Franc, 16% Gamay, and 7-8% Lemberger. The grapes are sourced from the south blocks of the Wending Home Estate Vineyard, with vines dating back to the mid-1990s. The Creek Shores appellation, situated within the Niagara Peninsula, is known for its favorable climate and diverse soil types, influenced by Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. The winery itself was established by winemaker Ron Giesbrecht and his former student, Huaying Feng, during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding a personal narrative to the estate's legacy. The 2020 vintage is noted as being particularly exceptional in the Niagara region, contributing to the wine's quality.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for the 2020 Wending South involves keeping each grape varietal separate during vinification. Following fermentation, these distinct lots are then blended to create the final wine. The wine undergoes an aging process of 15 to 18 months, primarily in used American oak barrels, with some indications of neutral French oak also being used. This method of separate fermentation and careful blending, combined with extended aging in neutral oak, is designed to highlight the unique characteristics of the chosen grape varieties and the estate's terroir.
